Muxima means heart in the indigenous Angolan language Kimbudu and it is from this space of heart that Paula & Jelle guard the land and care for their guests. More than just a rural Bed & Breakfast, Muxima it is a family home, fueled by the great love for nature and community.
Tucked into the peace of a forest, with untouched beaches and the historic town of Aljezur in short driving distance, Muxima is a perfect rural escape for all ages. A place to slow down, rest after hikes, explore Europe's last virgin beaches, gaze at the stars and enjoy great local food.
Away from main roads, surrounded by a beautiful forest, Muxima is a great place for children to explore and reconnect with the wild. The land has two playgrounds, a swing, a trampolin, a lake, chickens, a donkey and so much more to discover.. The breakfast buffet offers children friendly options and the living room in the main house holds a beautiful library with good night stories in many different languages.
All accommodations at Muxima are part of two restored farmhouses. Inspired by traditional Portuguese architecture, Casa de Eira & Casa do Monte are typical taipa buildings. The walls have been made of a compacted mixture of soil and straw, plastered with natural pigments, which makes every room a unique experience. The decoration is a homage to natural materials and local craftsmanship. Handmade ceramic lamps and vases with clay from Algarve’s south coast, straw chairs and benches, mixed with raw objects from nature and travel souvenirs.
The natural pool at Muxima is a refreshing oasis during the hot summer days. Swimming with lilies and dragonflies or simply resting by the pool surrounded by the beautiful nature of the valley.A visit to our Biopool is an utterly enjoyable ad refreshing experience that will deliver you heavenly energy in a beautiful setting. Enjoy a relaxing massage whilst listening to the sound of nature around you.
The rustic environment offers many activities: swim in the bio pool that utilizes reeds to clean the water naturally; or explore some of the best beaches in Europe where you can surf, sail or relax on the fine sand. The eco-theme is continued throughout with electricity from solar panels and guests are encouraged to use the bicycles to explore the rich terrain of this jasmine-scented area. You can eat breakfast at the hotel and for other meals, you can take a gentle amble to the local village to dine of fresh grilled fish or other Mediterranean delicacies. Muxima is a real labor of love.
After a beautiful season filled with wonderful guests, we retreat from November to restore and recharge before we open our house and home again for another season filled with beautiful encounters on the 1st of April 2023
